Ability to edit my own message to have it auto delete and resubmit my message
I definitely need to edit my messages often. Either from a mistake or the need to add more info to get closer to the reaction:context needed. But, it is a pain, I need to copy my text, delete my message, then paste into a new message, then I can edit and submit.
Something like a pencil icon next to or on the other side of the delete icon would just be a nice convenience function.

I can see an issue with trying to just edit a message that we have already sent, which is that the bot has already responded to the message we sent. In order to get a new response from the bot based upon our edit would require at the minimum, a re-roll, unless the feature being requested would do the heavy lifting of automatically doing the re-roll of the following bot response after the edit of our message has been submitted. I would like to see that as an feature though, it would make things easier.

As a bad texter I often find a typo in my comment than can change the meaning. In addition adding a detail can help focus the AI. I understand from the AI perspective this would function as a delete an new prompt.

Yes it'd be a very useful quality of life improvement instead of doing it manually.

Hi,
This is a tricky one, I hear you deleting and backtracking can get a little tedious however there is a reason for it, due to the nature of AI. The message you type is sent to the bot and based on that the bot responds.
You can change the output/response from your companion as it's after the fact, and mostly cosmetic. Where let's say you edit your message from "Do this" to "Do that" unless that is re-posted costing you another token each time you edit your companion won't know the change happened.
Basically put your companion doesn't care about what it says, just what you say. plus each time you edited a message. let's say the start of the message was "give HugBot a drink" you could effectively end up giving them 20 drinks.

I understand it costs tokens, I okay with that. While the response is mainly cosmetic, I thought some of my chat history was also sent back with each request to allow a better context of conversation. If I don’t edit my message, doesn’t my old message that I want to edit but didn’t also get sent back within that context? I have had it be very difficult to get it to shift, typicallly it happens when I don’t clearly specify like a person of interaction, an interaction, it then drifts and can come back with lots of stuff that keeps within the context window.
At least, that is how I have worked with my GPT’s at home and work.
